An experiential marketing project for Ron Zacapa Centenario, creating an immersive VR experience that brought the brand’s story to life. My responsibilities included environment building, game design, and the technical implementation of the experience in VR.

Additionally, I developed the showreel cinematic, which involved retexturing and remodelling assets, as well as redesigning key environments to enhance visual fidelity and narrative impact.

The VR experience was centred around the story of Zacapa's rum-making process. We designed a fun and informative game that was simple enough to be accessible to a wide range of users, including those unfamiliar with VR.

In the final experience, users journeyed through a Guatemalan town into a field of sugarcane, where they extracted sugarcane honey, the key ingredient in Zacapa rum. They were then transported to the distillery to learn about the different casks and flavour notes that define Zacapa. The experience concluded with a celebratory toast to the beautiful marriage of tradition and innovation at the heart of Zacapa rum.

As the original environment was designed to be lightweight and optimised for VR, much of the visual fidelity was intentionally reduced. For the cinematic showreel, I retextured, remodelled, and redesigned the lighting across various environments to achieve a higher level of detail and atmosphere suitable for a cinematic sequence.

Ron Zacapa Centenario is a premium Guatemalan rum known for its rich heritage and craftsmanship. It was created in 1976 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the town of Zacapa. The rum is made using a blend of aged rums, with some aged for up to 23 years, and is matured at high altitudes to develop its smooth character. The name Zacapa comes from the Nahuatl word meaning "on the river of grass." The brand is also recognised for its distinctive packaging, originally wrapped in handwoven palm leaf matting inspired by Mayan traditions.
