Tibetan Prayer Flags
These colourful flags arranged in a tent shape are a common sight in regions with predominantly Tibetan Buddhists. They are put up to pray for a long life of good fortune, and symoblises the altruistic intention to become enlightened.
On my trip to Xining 西宁, China, I came across these flags flowing in the strong winds on the grassy hills. I decided to recreate them digitally as a homage to their culture, beliefs and practices.

Inspiration
Driving through the roads of Xining along Qinghai Lake, it was a common sight to see these prayer flags mounted in various forms, vertically on a pole, horizontally across pillars, or in a cone shape like a tent. The flags constantly flow to one direction as the strong winds carry them and the vibrant colours of the prayer flags stand out in the plain yellow hills.
In my rendition, I made sure to represent these two things.

wind and cloth simulation in blender
Using cloth and wind simulations, I created my version of the prayer flags "tent" that flew in the wind. I kept the materials simple as the scene will place the flags in a distance, so intricate details are not necessary.

into Unreal Engine 5
There was no need for too much of a block out as there were only two elements to the scene - the grass hill and the prayer flag "tent". The foliage was procedurally placed onto a simple landscape. I created some pretty simple materials for the flags, the supporting pole in the middle, and the landscape.
The end result was rendered with path tracing.
